Tech Assessment #2: Let's Talk Tools

Moodle   ✩✩✩            Since the beginning of my college life in the University of Guam, everyone from students to teachers have been utilizing Moodle. Students use this learning management system to turn in their assignments, check their grades, and communicate with their professors and peers. Teachers are able to post up announcements, attendance, grades, assignments with their due dates, and other helpful examples or links for the students' use. Although this system has been great over the years, it does have a few issues that I have noticed from my experience with it. Moodle has a tendency of not having the correct due dates even if they were supposedly changed. I have also noticed the constant need for maintenance, especially at inconvenient times when I am required to turn something in or check instructions for an assignment. Overall, Moodle is a great tool for schools besides the minor inconveniences. Chrome   ✩✩✩✩            I have been using Chrome since I discove

Tech Assessment #1: Making Dreams a Reality with AT

Figure 1.  Assistive Technology            By creating a few lesson plans and getting more comfortable with them, I began to understand what exactly it consists of and the importance of including those items. Specifically, the  ASSURE lesson plan has five separate segments that stand for each letter of "ASSURE." In the case of Enabling Dreams , the letter 'A' for "analyze learners" is known to contain audience, exceptionalities, and learning style which makes this the most important portion of the lesson plan for the success of students with disabilities. Teachers are not able to obtain the proper technology or material needed if they do not first understand what they are dealing with. Having prior knowledge about the disabilities of a student, or students, will allow the teacher to be better prepared to help the child prosper alongside the rest of the class. In the video, we see that the teachers are obviously aware of each student's condition a

Reflection #2: The Importance of Being Safe on the Internet

Figure 1. Being internet smart The digital safety project covered four separate topics including Internet safety and privacy, pharming and phishing, fair user practices (FUP) and copyright issues, and last but not least, cyberbullying. Although each topic may have its differences including a specific goal, I would still say each one fits well together in a cohesive, educational unit with some similarities. Throughout the presentations, I have come to realize how these topics go hand in hand with one another and why each require the same amount of attention. For instance, lacking knowledge about pharming or phishing can lead to putting personal information in the wrong hands and this information will no longer be private.  "A criminal will use both tactics to obtain your user names, passwords, and potentially more ( Phishing vs. pharming: What's the difference, 2018)."   No one desires an invasion of privacy, but this usually occurs when people do not

Reflection #1: The Ins and Outs of Magic Words Online Game

Image
In the beginning of the semester, the class was divided into specific groups to develop teamwork skills. The online educational game assignment was a three-part task that included using a child-friendly search engine to hunt for the best game, formulating a rubric with group ratings for the chosen game, and creating a presentation about the game to finally display in front of the class. With all of these tasks in front of us, my group had to learn how to work efficiently, which meant avoiding to collaborate with one another was definitely not an option. Thankfully, my group had great communication skills and refused to waste any time that should be spent on the assignment. " The ability to communicate information accurately, clearly and as intended, is a vital life skill and something that should not be overlooked"  (SkillsYouNeed, n.d.).   There were barely any issues with deciding on what game to present on because each member of my group had their opinions consi
